Nicholas Woodward.
Nicholas Woodward is a Senior Associate Lawyer at Smith Immigration Law and a former judicial law clerk at the Federal Court, where he clerked for the Honourable Justice Elizabeth Walker. An experienced immigration and refugee litigator, Nicholas has practiced exclusively in immigration and refugee law for over seven years.
Nicholas represents clients in complex matters before the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court, including refugee claims and appeals, judicial reviews, urgent stays of removal, mandamus applications, humanitarian and compassionate applications, pre-removal risk assessments, and inadmissibility matters.
His practice has a particular focus on advancing the rights of vulnerable individuals, including LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV. He works closely with community organizations supporting LGBTQ+ newcomers and their families and is deeply committed to access to justice.
Fluently bilingual in English and French, Nicholas holds a Juris Doctor and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
Nicholas is a member of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers and the Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association.
